A bullion trader taken from Deulgaon Raja in an Innova on Monday was thought to be abducted; Telangana police said they had detained him for questioning in a case.
A bullion trader was taken away in a car by a few men in broad daylight at Deulgaon Raja in Buldhana district on Monday, November 2, causing alarm across the district. It was first taken for an abduction, but it later emerged that Telangana police had taken him away and handed him safely to his relatives at night.
Aniruddha Madhukar Shingne (32), a resident of Deulgaon Mahi, runs a gold and silver shop and also deals in land. He had come to Deulgaon Raja on Monday in connection with a land deal. He was attending to his work at the office of the sub-registrar (Class 1) when four to five men arrived.
The men identified themselves as LCB police and took Shingne away in an Innova car. As this happened in daylight in front of the office, it caused a stir in the area. Word soon spread in the town that the trader had been abducted. Relatives rushed to the police station and told the police everything. The police then began a swift investigation.
Police fanned out across the district looking for the suspect Innova. When word came that the vehicle was in the Sakharkherda area, police stopped the car and questioned its occupants. It then emerged that they were officers of the local crime branch of the Nizamabad Police Commissionerate in Telangana. The matter took an unexpected turn at this point.
It has been stated that a team led by Inspector Ajay of the CCS under the Nizamabad Police Commissionerate had taken Shingne into custody for an investigation into a case registered at Navipet police station. Telangana police had detained him for questioning in connection with alleged irregularities in the buying and selling of gold and silver. The undertaking given by the relatives states that a case is registered at Navipet police station under crime number 272/2026, under Sections 331(3) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
After questioning and inquiry, Telangana police found that there was no need to keep Shingne in custody any longer. He was therefore handed over to his relatives on Monday night itself.
Shingne's maternal uncle Uddhav Cheke (42) and father-in-law Manohar Cheke (51), both residents of Deulgaon Raja, gave an undertaking and an acknowledgement. According to the letter, the relatives took Shingne with them, safe and in good health, at Malegaon in Maharashtra at 11 pm on November 2, 2026.
The relatives have also given a written assurance that Shingne will be produced whenever the investigating officer, a police officer or a court asks him to appear in connection with the Telangana police inquiry. The letter also states that the undertaking was given of their own free will, without any pressure, inducement, threat or coercion.
The sight of a bullion trader being driven away in an Innova in broad daylight had raised suspicion of an abduction. When the vehicle was stopped at Sakharkherda, the Telangana police inquiry came to light, and the trader returned to his relatives late at night. The matter, which was the talk of the district all day, has for now ended happily.
