A 19-year-old man died of a drug overdose in Malad East, Mumbai. An attempt to abduct a six-year-old girl in the same area a few days ago has also come to light. The two incidents have again raised questions over law and order in the area and have left residents worried.

The youth's case falls within the limits of Kurar police station. The 19-year-old had consumed a narcotic substance, after which his health suddenly deteriorated. He was admitted to hospital for treatment but died during treatment.

On learning of the incident, Kurar police began the necessary inquiries at the spot and at the hospital. Police are trying to establish which narcotic the youth took, who gave him the drugs and how they reached him.

The incident has caused alarm in the area. The growing problem of drug use among young people is once again under discussion. Finding out who is behind the supply of drugs and how the entire chain operates is a challenge for the police.

The second incident is from Malad-Malwani. A few days ago, at around 8.30 pm, an attempt was made to carry off a six-year-old girl in the Rathodi Village, Gangadham Society and Ali Talao areas. The girl had stepped out of her house to throw away garbage. A man reported to be intoxicated is said to have caught hold of her and tried to take her away.

Shopkeepers nearby saw this, acted promptly and freed the girl from the man's grip. The suspect then fled the spot.

A video of the incident has also gone viral. Local residents have demanded that Malwani police quickly trace and arrest the suspect seen in the video. They fear that similar incidents could recur if action is not taken in time.

Police are continuing their investigation in both cases.
