Teaser of Marathi film 'Maitreya' explores friendship tangled with love
The teaser of Marathi film 'Maitreya' hints at the blurred lines between friendship and love among its four lead characters
Some relationships are hard to put into words, and harder still to name. Marathi film "Maitreya" brings one such unusual relationship story, and its teaser has now been released. The teaser offers glimpses of the friendship, closeness and hidden emotions in the lives of Samar, Ayushi, Sky and Ruchi, leaving viewers curious about what really lies behind these relationships.
The teaser's story appears to revolve around the relationships between Arjoyi, Jay, Sajiri and Nirvana. The four are important people in each other's lives, and the friendship, fun and ease between them is clearly visible in the teaser. But when someone new enters life, relationships begin to change. Someone who once felt like their own suddenly starts to feel like a stranger. The film will explore this tangle of relationships among the four, built around this very feeling.
The teaser has a line: "On one side love, on one side friendship, and on one side love entangled in friendship..." This line deepens the confusion around these relationships further. The film will explore just where the line between love and friendship lies.
The film's writer-director Kranti Redkar Wankhede said, "The line that comes at the end of the teaser - 'On one side love, on one side friendship, and on one side love entangled in friendship...' - deepens the complexity of these relationships even further. This one line itself reveals the complexity of the relationships between Arjoyi, Jay, Sajiri and Nirvana. Where love ends and friendship begins, or whether some relationships remain forever stuck between the two, is what the story of 'Maitreya' seeks to explore."
The film's producer Manoj Khalatkar said about "Maitreya", "I wanted to make something youthful and bring a family entertainer before audiences that the whole family could sit and watch together. Through 'Maitreya', we have tried to fulfil this wish. Audiences will be able to feel the emotions of young people's relationships in this film, along with the fun and ease hidden within them."
"Maitreya", made under the Samar Times Productions banner, has been written and directed by Kranti Redkar Wankhede. Manoj Khalatkar is the film's producer and Aman Khalatkar is co-producer. The film stars Samar, Ayushi, Sky and Ruchi in lead roles. This story of friendship, love and changing emotions in relationships will release for audiences on October 23, 2026.
