Tata Motors is preparing for a major change in its compact sedan lineup. The existing Tata Tigor could be launched in a new avatar, and this time there is talk of the car being renamed Tata Aeris. The company has filed a trademark under the name "TATA AERIS", and since this came to light, speculation about the new sedan's name has intensified. It is being said that the car could launch on September 25, 2026.

On design, the new Tata Aeris could look quite different from the current Tigor. The front profile may get slim headlights, a black connecting element and a larger sporty bumper, giving the car a more modern and aggressive look. The side profile could feature new alloy wheels, while the rear may get new tail lights and an updated bumper. However, the car's basic sedan shape is likely to remain the same.

Several updates are also expected inside the cabin. The interior could draw inspiration from the recently launched Tata Tiago facelift. The car may get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It could also feature a digital driver display, a new steering wheel, a 360-degree camera, a wireless phone charger and Type-C charging ports. Electrically folding mirrors may also be included. On safety, the car is expected to get 6 airbags.

On the powertrain front, the Tata Aeris could be launched in both petrol and CNG options. The petrol model may get a 1.2-litre engine producing around 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, while the CNG version could get a company-fitted CNG kit with the engine producing around 75.5 PS and 96.5 Nm of torque. Both powertrains may be offered with a 5-speed manual as well as an automatic gearbox option. There is also talk of an EV version being launched, though no official information on battery capacity, range, motor or price has been revealed yet; this will become clear only at the time of launch.

In India's compact sedan segment, the car competes with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze. With the Tigor's sales comparatively lower, Tata Motors could be looking to draw customer attention with a new name. With a new name, updated design and modern features, the company may be looking to reintroduce this sedan to the market afresh. It will be interesting to see what name Tata Motors gives the car and what features it includes at the launch on September 25, 2026.
