Tata Motors' long-awaited Safari EV is preparing to enter the Indian market. The electric SUV is likely to launch in the 2026 festive season and could become the company's first three-row electric SUV. With a large battery, all-wheel drive and premium features, the Safari EV is expected to compete directly with electric SUVs such as the Mahindra XEV 9S.

A test mule of the Safari EV has recently been spotted with a triple-screen dashboard. It is expected to get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen. The top variant may also get a 12.3-inch passenger display, which could be used for entertainment, videos, games and music. As a result, the Safari EV's cabin could be more modern and technology-focused compared with the existing petrol-diesel model.

On the battery front, the Safari EV is expected to get 65 kWh and 75 kWh LFP battery packs. The larger 75 kWh pack is likely to be available in both RWD and AWD configurations. For reference, the Tata Harrier EV is claimed to have an MIDC range of 627 km with the 75 kWh RWD battery, while the AWD variant's range is 622 km. Since the Safari EV is larger and heavier than the Harrier EV, its range could be slightly lower than the Harrier EV's.

In terms of drive options, the Safari EV is expected to offer a single-motor RWD and a dual-motor AWD variant. The RWD setup could produce around 238 hp and 315 Nm of torque, while the AWD variant's total torque could go up to 504 Nm. The AWD model may get multiple terrain modes such as snow/grass, mud/ruts, sand and rock crawl, making the SUV usable not just in cities but also on varied roads and terrain.

The features list is also long. The Safari EV is expected to get aerodynamic 19-inch alloy wheels, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, ventilated seats, a digital inner rearview mirror and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This could make the electric SUV a premium package in terms of comfort, safety and connectivity as well.

On pricing, the Tata Safari EV's estimated ex-showroom price could be between Rs 22.5 lakh and Rs 30 lakh. However, the company has not yet revealed the official price or the full variant lineup. With a large battery, AWD, a triple-screen dashboard, ADAS and three-row seating, the Tata Safari EV could be an important entry in the Indian electric SUV market. It will be interesting to see how its price, range and features stack up against rivals such as the Mahindra XEV 9S after launch.
