Swiggy, one of India's leading on-demand convenience platforms, has announced a multi-restaurant ordering feature on its app. The company says food is a matter of personal choice, and people in the same family or group can have different tastes.
The feature has been built so that users can order what they like without compromise. Users can add different items and dishes of their choice from up to five restaurants and place a single order. Besides an easier experience, the company promises greater savings, as separate carts and checkouts are no longer needed and users do not have to pay multiple platform fees.
Whether it is a family get-together, a Diwali party or a long weekend, everyone at the table has different tastes. With this feature, customers can order their favourite starters, main course and dessert from different restaurants at the same time.
The feature gives a food-court-like experience at home. Customers can keep multiple carts, compare them side by side, and order from five restaurants with a single payment, without repeated checkouts, OTPs or payment flows. Each restaurant's order is prepared and delivered separately, and appears in its own tab on a shared tracking screen.
At the launch, Siddharth Bhakoo, chief business officer of Swiggy Food Marketplace, said, "Food is at the centre of any festival, but getting everyone to agree on the menu is always the hardest part. We are truly bringing the food court concept to your home. Multi-restaurant ordering is our solution to this big problem of food. We are giving users the freedom to choose from their favourite restaurants or a variety of dishes at once, whether it is adding pizza to biryani or mixing sushi with local street food, all of this is possible in a single checkout."
Bhakoo added, "It includes offering more choice, more convenience, no compromise, and everyone at the table enjoying exactly the food they love and want."
Eating together with loved ones often means balancing different tastes. Sometimes people have to give up their own preference to find one option everyone agrees on. Swiggy's customer research found that 55% of users create two carts in a single session, and one in every five users places a second order within 30 minutes of the first. This can lead to abandoned carts, or customers placing several orders at different times.
The multi-restaurant ordering feature addresses these challenges and offers a complete solution for varied cravings. The feature is live in more than 720 cities. Swiggy says it aims to stay ahead in bringing solutions that turn every mealtime into an easy celebration of different tastes and give customers more convenience.
