Indian athletes continue to win medals at the Asian Para Games 2026. World champion and Paralympic champion Sumit Antil retained his title by winning gold in the men's javelin throw. India took all three medals in the event.
At the Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium in Nagoya, Antil won gold with a throw of 72.46 metres. Mahendra Gurjar won silver with a throw of 59.03 metres. Sandeep Sargar took bronze with a throw of 64.48 metres. The two also set event records in their respective categories.
India's overall medal count has now reached 114, its best performance at the Asian Para Games so far.
Pranav Soorma also won gold for the country. He threw the club 32.87 metres in the men's club throw F51 event and set a new event record. In the same event, Dharambir won bronze with 27.71 metres. Veteran Amit Kumar Saroha finished fifth with 27.26 metres, so India missed out on winning all three medals in this event.
India has so far won a total of 114 medals at these Games: 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze. India won 111 medals at the 2023 edition in Hangzhou, China. India has now gone past that figure, and has also surpassed its tally of 29 gold medals last time.
Sandeep won bronze in the men's 100 metres T64 with a time of 11.67 seconds. He had earlier won gold in the 400 metres T64.
Indian players also performed well in badminton. The pair of Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manasi Joshi won gold in the women's doubles SL3-SU5 final, beating China's Qiuxia Yang and Zhuxian Xiao 21-16, 21-13 in straight games. The win also avenged the Indian pair's defeat in the final of the 2025 Asian Championships. Earlier, Thulasimathi had won silver in the mixed doubles SL3-SU5 with Nitesh Kumar.
The strong performances have further strengthened India's position in the Asian Para Games medal table.
