Special voter service drive begins in Manora taluka, Washim, to check and correct electoral rolls
Special camps will run from October 3 to 11 in Manora taluka, and Tahsildar Rajendra Patil has asked residents to check their names on the voter list.
A special voter service campaign has begun in Manora taluka of Washim district to make the electoral roll more accurate, up to date and free of errors. The campaign is being run on the directions of the Election Commission of India. The first condition for exercising the right captured in the slogan "My Vote, My Right" is that one's name is on the voter list.
Under the campaign, special camps have been set up in the taluka between October 3 and 11. Manora Tahsildar Rajendra Patil has appealed to people to cooperate with the administration in voter registration and correction work. The administration says that anyone whose name is missing should register, and anyone with an error should have it corrected. It is with this aim that it is now going to people's doorsteps.
The administration has made a public appeal to every citizen to check today whether the names of all eligible members of their family are on the voter list, and to get necessary corrections made. People have been asked to help the administration so that no eligible voter is left out of registration. For online applications, people can visit the relevant website or call the voter helpline on 1950.
Eligible citizens of the Karanja assembly constituency have also been urged to take part in the campaign and support the administration. The appeal has been made by Karanja Sub-Divisional Officer Kailas Deore, Manora Tahsildar Rajendra Patil and Manora revenue officer Sharad Moghad.
The appeal also spells out what people need to check and do. Those who have completed 18 years of age should get their names enrolled immediately. People should check today whether their name is safe on the list. Any mistake in name, age, date of birth or gender should be corrected. Those who have changed residence should get the new address updated on the voter list. If a family member has died or permanently moved away, an application should be made to have that name removed from the list.
For people's convenience, special camps have been arranged on Saturdays and Sundays. The camp schedule covers October 4 to 10 and October 11. The venue will be the voter's own polling booth or a designated voter service centre.
Different forms are needed for different tasks. Form 6 is to be used for new voter registration, Form 8 for corrections or change of address, and Form 7 for deletion of a name or to file an objection.
