A special PMLA court in Mumbai has accepted the Enforcement Directorate's closure report, ending the money laundering probe against Hasan Mushrif and his children.
Nationalist Congress Party senior leader and state minister Hasan Mushrif has received major relief. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe against him and his children in the alleged financial irregularities case linked to the Sarsenapati Santaji Ghorpade sugar factory has now officially ended. A special PMLA court in Mumbai accepted the ED's closure report, bringing to a close a case that had run since 2022.
The order was delivered by special PMLA judge S. V. Sahare. The court clarified that a predicate offence is necessary for action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. In this case, the Bombay High Court had already quashed the original complaints and the FIR, so proceedings under the PMLA could not continue. The court also quashed the ECIR registered on April 4, 2022, and directed that the case papers be returned to the ED.
The ED had begun questioning Mushrif and his children over the financial transactions of the Sarsenapati Santaji Ghorpade sugar factory. The agency alleged that more than Rs 11.35 crore was received in the financial year 2013-14 through alleged shell companies in Kolkata. During the probe, in July 2024, the ED seized a fixed deposit of Rs 2.07 crore and Rs 7.70 lakh in cash.
The turning point came with the High Court's rulings. Mushrif had approached the High Court against the ED's action. In June 2025, the court quashed the FIR registered at the Murgud police station. A complaint filed under provisions of company law was also quashed on November 6, 2025.
After both original cases were quashed, the ED itself filed a closure report. The special court has now accepted it, bringing major relief to Mushrif and his family.
