Sonipat: Pet pitbull attacks six-month-old baby as door opens, critically injured
A pet pitbull attacked a six-month-old baby in Sonipat while its owner stood by, and the child is now critically injured in hospital.
A shocking incident has come to light from Sonipat in Haryana, where a pet pitbull dog attacked a six-month-old baby. The incident is so disturbing that it is hard to watch. What has angered people most is that the dog's owner stood by calmly while the animal bit the infant, showing no concern.
The incident took place in the afternoon. A woman was chatting with a neighbour while holding her six-month-old baby. As the neighbour's door opened, a dog ran out at speed and violently attacked the child. The entire incident was caught on camera and the video has been widely shared on social media. The video shows the dog refusing to let go of the baby while its owner stood watching calmly and did not immediately try to pull the dog away. The baby was severely injured and was rushed to hospital, where the condition is being described as worrying.
Twitter user Ankur Singh shared a video of the incident, writing that a pet pitbull in Sonipat, Haryana, attacked a six-month-old baby. He said the dog's owner stood by relaxed even as the dog violently attacked the child. According to him, the baby is seriously injured and admitted to hospital, but dog lovers will still defend the breed.
Pitbulls are generally considered a highly aggressive breed. Several countries have banned keeping this breed because their behaviour is considered unpredictable, and once they bite, they do not let go easily. In India too, there have been several reports of pitbulls attacking children and adults. Despite this, people continue to keep them as pets.
In this case, the owner is being held most responsible. Keeping such a dangerous dog in a house with a small child, and then leaving it unrestrained, is being called nothing short of irresponsible. There are demands for strict action against the owner, since the owner of a pet dog is fully responsible if it attacks someone.
There are also calls for the government to ban dangerous breeds like the pitbull or bring in strict rules for keeping them. The six-month-old baby is currently fighting for life in hospital. People are being urged to be cautious so that no such incident happens in anyone else's home again, and to think carefully before keeping such a dog as a pet, since a small lapse can cost a life.
