Solar Defence completes delivery of Nagastra-2 loitering munition system to Indian Army
Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited has delivered the Nagastra-2 system, which has electronic counter-countermeasure capability, after tests in electronic warfare conditions, the company said.
Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) has completed the delivery of the Nagastra-2 loitering munition system to the Indian Army. The system has advanced electronic counter-countermeasure (ECCM) capability. The delivery has strengthened indigenous technology in India's defence sector. According to the company, tests in difficult electronic warfare conditions were successful, after which the system is ready for deployment with the Army.
Technical trials of Nagastra-2 were held in August 2026 at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Bikaner, Rajasthan. According to the company, the system's operational parameters and ECCM performance were evaluated in the presence of an Indian Army Board of Officers, and the result was successful. The delivery process was completed only after that.
Nagastra-2 has been built keeping in mind the challenges of today's battlefield. It has features such as anti-jamming, anti-spoofing and multi-mode communication. The company says its vision-based tracking and autonomous guidance system helps track a target even when GPS signals are lost.
Its operational range is stated to be more than 25 kilometres. Its electro-optical payload carries dual sensors that work both day and night. The system is designed to detect and track different kinds of targets, including armoured vehicles.
On the warhead, the company says Nagastra-2 carries an indigenously built tandem anti-tank warhead. It is capable of defeating explosive reactive armour (ERA) and penetrating rolled homogeneous armour (RHA) up to 650 mm. However, its actual effect depends on conditions and test parameters.
The delivery of Nagastra-2 is expected to boost indigenous development of defence equipment in India. The system, with advanced communication, tracking and guidance capabilities, has been developed with the needs of the modern battlefield in mind.
