A new facility is about to begin for visitors to the Pench Tiger Reserve in Nagpur district. From October 1, solar boat safaris will run regularly on the large reservoir of the Pench river.

The boats run on solar energy, so tourists will be able to travel on the water away from pollution and noise. Two premium, comfortable Soltar boats from Kerala have already reached the Pench reservoir. Each boat can seat 24 passengers.

Because the boats run entirely on solar power, there will be no pollution in the water. Engine noise is also very low. This will cause the least possible disturbance to wildlife in the forest, and tourists will be able to enjoy nature.

Two main routes have been fixed for the safari on the Pench river. The first runs from Kolitmara to Nandpur Nagaragota and is about 8 to 10 km long. On this route tourists will be able to see the natural beauty of Pench. A rest facility for tourists will also be available at Nandpur Kuti.

The second route goes from Kolitmara to Kuwara Bhivsen and, including the return, is a waterway of about 25 to 28 km. This route will take tourists through the dense forest area of Pench. Visitors will also be able to visit the ancient Kuwara Bhivsen shrine.

The safari is also special for bird watchers. The calm reservoir of the Pench river is an important area for observing water birds. During the safari, visitors may get to see birds of many species, including painted stork, darter, heron, black-headed ibis and eagle, as well as local migratory birds.

Crocodiles will certainly be seen in the reservoir. Wildlife such as bison, chital, sambar and peacock that come to the riverbank to drink water can also be watched from a safe distance.

Ancient remains from the Vakataka period also exist around the Nandpur area. Tourists on the boat safari will therefore see the region's historical heritage along with the forest's nature. The Kuwara Bhivsen area will also be a major attraction of this water tourism.
