A technical fault in the hi-tech security system of Akshad Jewellers in Itwari's bullion market, not a theft, caused the shutter to open by itself.

Nagpur: News of a theft spread and caused alarm among traders in Itwari's bullion market after the shutter of Akshad Jewellers suddenly rose. Inquiries, however, showed the theft story to be merely a rumour. A technical fault in the hi-tech security system installed in the shop had made the shutter slide up on its own. Police and bullion traders breathed a sigh of relief once the facts emerged.

Owner reached shop on getting mobile alert

Abhishek Lunawat owns the Akshad Jewellers showroom in Itwari's bullion market. The shop has a modern hi-tech security system. On the night of October 21, the shutter suddenly moved up by itself. Lunawat rushed to the shop after receiving an alert and alarm on his mobile phone from the security system. When he checked the shop, the gold and silver ornaments and other items inside were found completely safe. Inquiries revealed that the shutter had opened by itself because of a technical fault in the security system.

Immersion procession's sound system suspected

It is said that a procession for the immersion of a Goddess Durga idol was passing through the bullion market at the time. It was suspected that the loud sound system of the procession caused a technical fault in the hi-tech security system of Akshad Jewellers, and that this made the shutter rise. The cause of the incident has been stated to be a technical fault.

Rumour had alarmed traders

As soon as news of the shutter opening spread, talk of a possible theft began in the bullion market. With Diwali near and gold and silver trade brisk, the news had heightened traders' worry. But after the jewellery and other items in the shop were found safe and the technical fault came to light, traders felt relieved. Rajesh Rokde, president of the bullion market association, clarified that the shutter had risen on its own solely because of a technical fault in the security system. He called the theft report entirely a rumour and baseless.
