Nagpur man rapes 14-year-old on pretext of marriage, arrested

A 19-year-old man in Nagpur has been arrested for raping a 14-year-old girl he had promised to marry, who was found to be five months pregnant.

A 14-year-old girl was raped by a man who lured her with the promise of marriage in the Panchpaoli police station area of Nagpur. The girl came into contact with the accused through a common friend, and the friendship led to the assault.

Panchpaoli police arrested the 19-year-old accused, Shridhar Ishwar Rajkatta, and booked him under the POCSO Act and other sections.

According to the complaint, the victim and the accused were introduced through a common friend, after which the two began talking. In April 2026, the accused promised to marry the minor and sexually exploited her under this pretext.

Some time later, the girl began feeling unwell, and her family took her to a doctor. Medical examination revealed she was five months pregnant. A complaint about the incident was filed at Panchpaoli police station, and police arrested the accused, Shridhar Ishwar Rajkatta, after registering the case.
