Sextortion case: 1,500-page chargesheet filed against cricketer, brother and aide
Mumbai Police have filed a chargesheet accusing a woman cricketer, her brother and an associate of extorting Rs 23.61 lakh from a Colaba businessman.
Jammu and Kashmir woman cricketer Farkhanda Khan, 30, her brother Bazil Khan, 27, and their associate Uddin Imtiyaz Wani, 22, have been accused of sextortion and extortion. They are alleged to have together extracted Rs 23.61 lakh from a businessman in Colaba. Mumbai Police registered a case and, after a long investigation, have now filed a 1,500-page chargesheet in court.
According to police, the accused threatened the businessman that his private chats would be made public and his family harmed if he did not pay. Money was extorted from him repeatedly on the strength of this threat.
Police investigation found that the businessman and Farkhanda Khan had connected on social media in 2023, after which the two began communicating over WhatsApp and other means. It is alleged that in early 2024 the accused first threatened the businessman into transferring Rs 20,000 to a bank account. After that, by threatening him with sexual harassment allegations and arrest, they extorted money online from him a total of 32 times, amounting in all to Rs 23.61 lakh.
The chargesheet alleges that the entire amount was first deposited into Farkhanda Khan's bank account. Police say part of the money was also transferred to other family bank accounts. It is alleged that the money was used to buy a second-hand luxury car for the family home and to fund repairs to one of its rooms.
According to police, Farkhanda Khan was arrested in Delhi as she was returning to Cyprus via Cairo. She was arrested in New Delhi, and an iPhone along with a pen drive and other electronic devices were seized from her. A forensic examination of chats found on these devices is under way. Earlier, her brother Bazil and associate Wani were caught at a Delhi hotel where the accused cricketer and her brother were staying. The third associate, Wani, was taken into custody in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
According to police, brother Bazil and associate Wani have been granted bail with certain conditions in the case, but the main accused Farkhanda Khan's bail application has been rejected by the court.
