Satej Patil says the Mahayuti directors travelled via Goa and Surat to Udaipur, while the state's move to appoint five co-opted directors has deepened the Gokul row.
The Gokul milk union has become a hot topic in state politics. The union's election had 25 seats in all. Satej Patil's panel won 13 of them, while the Mahayuti had to settle for 12.
On the numbers, Patil's group appeared to have the upper hand. But a quorum of 14 members is needed to elect the chairman, and as it has not been met, the election process has stalled. This has further complicated the choice of the board's chairman.
It is being said that the 12 Mahayuti directors have been sent on a trip so that there is no political betrayal in the chairman's election. It was first said that these directors were in Alibag. But Satej Patil has put forward different information.
Speaking in an interview, Patil claimed that the Mahayuti directors had travelled via Goa and Surat and reached Udaipur. He said all of them were staying at the Marriott hotel in Udaipur. He added that he knew each director's room number. Patil also claimed that on the first floor the room numbers start from 130, which further fuelled political talk.
Meanwhile, the state government has decided to appoint five co-opted directors. Coming while the chairmanship deadlock persists, the decision has given the dispute a new turn. The fact that these directors have been given voting rights is also being discussed. The question being asked is whether this will change the power equation at Gokul.
Patil has objected to the decision. He alleged that the government is trying to take control of Gokul. Minister Hasan Mushrif has responded to the opposition's allegations.
In short, Patil's panel has 13 seats, the Mahayuti has 12, and a quorum of 14 members is needed to elect the chairman. The quorum has not been met, so the election is held up. Patil's claim about where the Mahayuti directors are stands on one side, and the government's decision on co-opted directors on the other.
The power struggle at Gokul has now reached the doors of the court. The whole state is watching what stand the court takes and who finally wins the Gokul chairmanship.
