Sharad Pawar discharged from Breach Candy Hospital; Sunetra Pawar's meeting did not take place
Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar is stable after two days of treatment, as talk of a merger of the two NCP factions revives.
Senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar has been discharged from hospital. He was treated for two days at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai and his condition is now stable.
However, the political meetings held during his treatment and the absence of some leaders have set political circles talking. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar's not meeting Sharad Pawar is particularly under discussion.
It is being said that the Deputy Chief Minister's office sought time to meet Sharad Pawar three times, yet the meeting could not take place. Various conjectures are being made in political circles over Sunetra Pawar not meeting him.
It is also said that Sharad Pawar's grandson Parth Pawar did not visit him at the hospital either. According to sources, Parth Pawar and Jay Pawar enquired about their grandfather's health by phone.
Praful Patel, a leader of the Ajit Pawar faction, visited Sharad Pawar at the hospital. The two spoke for about an hour and a half. It is reported that Sharad Pawar told Patel they would talk again after the 10th. Curiosity remains over what exactly was discussed at this meeting.
Besides Patel, Jayant Patil, Sanjay Raut, Jitendra Awhad, Sushilkumar Shinde and industrialist Gautam Adani also visited Pawar at the hospital, according to information received. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Uddhav Thackeray had enquired about his health by phone.
Meanwhile, a statement by Sunil Tatkare, state president of the Ajit Pawar faction, has revived talk of a merger of the two NCP parties. Tatkare had said that Ajit Pawar had held meetings on the merger and had informed him of it.
After Tatkare's statement, the question being raised is whether the two NCP parties will unite again. Against this background, Sunetra Pawar's not meeting Sharad Pawar is also being discussed.
Sharad Pawar had returned to his Silver Oak residence in Mumbai after two days of treatment, but was admitted again to Breach Candy Hospital after his condition worsened in the evening. He was discharged today after two days of treatment and his condition has been described as stable. Amid the hospital visits and the merger talk, all eyes are now on what happens in state politics in the coming days.
