Satara: 17-year-old girl dies in Godoli after father allegedly hits her with bat during row

A 17-year-old girl died in Satara's Godoli area after a quarrel at home, sending shock through the neighbourhood. Police investigation has found that her father struck her on the head with a wooden bat.

According to police, the quarrel began on Saturday night over switching off the television. It escalated over the use of a mobile phone. Preliminary information says the girl lived in Godoli with her parents and other family members. There had reportedly been repeated arguments at home over her behaviour for the past few days.

The probe found that as the argument grew on Saturday night, the girl was holding a wooden bat. Her father snatched it from her hand and hit her on the head with it. The girl, seriously injured, died.

The girl fell inside the house as soon as she was hit. However, police were not informed immediately. On Sunday morning, police were told that the girl was lying unconscious at home, and they reached the spot. During the inspection, police found that the place where the girl had fallen had been cleaned. According to police, an attempt had also been made to remove bloodstains and other evidence from the house.

What the family said differed from what was seen at the scene, which deepened police suspicion. A forensic team was then called and the house was examined closely.

Police questioned the father and his wife separately. Police said that after a full day of questioning, the father confessed that he had struck his daughter on the head with the bat. According to available information, the father and mother are both teachers and are said to be originally from Koregaon taluka.

The process of registering a murder case was continuing late into the night at Satara City police station. Police are now investigating why an attempt was made to destroy evidence after the incident and under exactly what circumstances the girl died. The investigation is on.
