BJP MLA Amit Satam said at a Mumbai press conference that his objection was to the stance of some people, not anyone's caste, religion or language.
The controversy over actor Dia Mirza's Diwali video has not died down. BJP MLA Amit Satam held a press conference in Mumbai and put forward his views on the matter.
The Bombay High Court had earlier commented on the issue. The court expressed displeasure at statements by BJP leaders and directed that the removed video of Dia Mirza be uploaded again. Satam's response has come after that.
Asked why the video was objected to, Satam said he had objected, and would continue to object, to the stance of some people who sympathise with those who spread anarchy in India. He made it clear that he had no objection on the basis of anyone's caste, religion or language.
Satam also said that those who sympathise with people who take an anti-India stance should think before doing so. He said this was his own opinion, which he put forward at the press conference.
The BMC first posted Dia Mirza's video and later removed it. Asked about this, Satam said the municipal corporation posted the video when it saw fit and deleted it when it saw fit. According to him, only the administration can explain this. Satam said that only those who run social media handles have the authority to post and remove content.
For the future, Satam suggested that the municipal corporation and other institutions should first check whom they are associating with, whose help they are taking and whom they are helping. He said such incidents could be avoided if decisions were taken after careful thought.
On the High Court's observations, Satam said they would certainly study the context in which the court made them.
The BMC had made the video to spread awareness about the court's direction not to burst firecrackers on public roads. The video was removed after Amit Satam objected to it.
Following the High Court's direction, the question of re-posting the video is now being discussed. Political circles are watching how the dispute develops after Satam's latest reaction.
