Sangeetsurya Keshavrao Bhosle, known as a popular and gifted singer-actor of Marathi musical theatre, is remembered today on his birth anniversary. At just 18, he founded the well-known theatre company Lalitkaladarsh Natak Mandali with his brother.

Impressed by his role in Govind Ballal Deval's play Sharada and his powerful singing, journalist Achyut Balwant Kolhatkar conferred on him the honorary title "Sangeetsurya".

He won over audiences with Dhairyadhar in Sangeet Manapman, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Shahashivaji, and male and female roles in other plays. He is credited with introducing the velvet curtain to the Marathi stage and with starting the discipline of beginning a play at the appointed time. He died on October 4, 1921. He was born on August 9, 1890.
