Cash saved from a salon's earnings to repay debts was stolen from a locked house in Karankondi, Jivati tehsil, and police have booked an unidentified accused.
Cash worth Rs 63,800 was stolen from a locked house in Karankondi in Jivati tehsil. The family was away, and an unidentified person took advantage of this to break into the house and commit the theft. Police have registered a case against the unknown accused.
According to police sources, Sandeep Vyankati Lingampalle (27), a resident of Karankondi, lives with his family and runs a salon in Jivati. For the past two to three months, he had been saving the money from the shop's earnings in a steel container kept in a cupboard at home. The money was meant to repay people he owed.
On the morning of September 30, he checked the money as usual and left for the shop. The other family members were also out on different errands, so the house was locked. In the afternoon, the family noticed that a nail of the door latch had come out, but they hammered it back in as before.
The next morning, October 1, Sandeep went to the cupboard in the old house to pay the shop rent. He found the locks of both the cupboard and the steel container inside it broken. The cash in the container was missing.
The stolen amount is made up of 45 notes of Rs 500 (Rs 22,500), 29 notes of Rs 200 (Rs 5,800), 320 notes of Rs 100 (Rs 32,000) and Rs 3,500 in small-denomination notes and change. The total stolen came to Rs 63,800.
According to police, an unidentified person, seeing the house locked, pulled out the nail of the door latch, entered and took the cash. After the theft was confirmed, Sandeep Lingampalle lodged a complaint at Jivati police station.
On the basis of the complaint, Jivati police have registered a case against the unknown thief under Sections 331(3) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Sub-Inspector Nikhil Rahate is investigating the case further.
