The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 has drawn a strong response from customers. The company now has orders for about six months piled up for the new bike, and has decided to stop bookings for the adventure motorcycle for the time being.

The Himalayan 440 was launched earlier this month at the first Himalayan Base Camp event in Ladakh. Bookings exceeded the company's expectations, and the current order book now stretches to six months of production. New customers may therefore have to wait longer to get the bike.

The company will gradually raise production to fulfil existing orders. New bookings will reopen only once production has risen and the way is clear to complete the current order book. Existing customers will come first in allotment.

The Himalayan 440 has a 443cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. It produces 25.4bhp at 6,250rpm and 34Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a wet multi-plate clutch. The bike has a 15-litre fuel tank.

With adventure riding in mind, the bike has a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear spoke wheel. Suspension travel is 200mm at the front and 180mm at the rear. With 220mm of ground clearance and an 800mm seat height, it can be ridden on rough roads and off-road stretches.

Features include an analogue-digital instrument cluster, a Tripper navigation pod, an LED headlamp, an LED tail lamp and a Type-C charging port. Braking is by 300mm front and 240mm rear discs with dual-channel ABS. The rear ABS can be switched off, which helps when riding on loose, soft soil.

The Himalayan name from Royal Enfield has now completed 10 years. According to the company, more than 3.2 lakh Himalayan-series bikes, counting the original Himalayan and the Himalayan 450, have been delivered worldwide.
