Rohit Sharma overtakes Shahid Afridi for most ODI sixes against New Zealand
Rohit hit two sixes in his 23 in the second ODI in Wellington, while Virat Kohli became the highest ODI run-scorer against New Zealand.
The second ODI between India and New Zealand was played in Wellington on Saturday, November 7. India had won the first ODI by five wickets. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck in that match.
In the second ODI too, Rohit could not play a big innings and returned to the pavilion early. He scored 23 off 28 balls, including two fours and two sixes. But those two sixes gave him a major record.
Rohit is now the first batter to hit the most sixes against New Zealand in ODIs. He broke the record of Pakistan great Shahid Afridi, who hit 50 sixes against New Zealand. Before the Wellington ODI, Rohit had 49 sixes against New Zealand, and he has now reached 51. Former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle is third on the list with 45 sixes.
Rohit set another record in this match. He is the second batter to hit more than 50 sixes against three teams in ODIs, and in this respect he has equalled Afridi. Rohit has 93 sixes against Australia and 58 against Sri Lanka. He has now crossed the 50-six mark against New Zealand as well.
Virat Kohli also failed to play a big innings in the second match and was out for 7. Even so, he added a special achievement to his name. Kohli is now the highest run-scorer against New Zealand in ODIs. He overtook Ricky Ponting, whom he needed just one run to pass. Kohli has scored 1,978 runs against New Zealand in 38 ODIs.
