New Zealand bowled out for 134 in second ODI as Gurnoor Brar takes three wickets
India need 135 to win the rain-delayed second ODI in Wellington after New Zealand collapsed against the Indian bowlers.
The second one-day international between India and New Zealand is under way in Wellington. The match started late because of rain and is being played over 47 overs a side instead of 50. India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision the bowlers justified.
New Zealand were bowled out for 134 batting first, setting India a target of 135 to win. Gurnoor Brar bowled superbly and took three wickets. He also bowled a maiden over in which he claimed two important wickets.
New Zealand made a poor start. Will Young and Tim Seifert opened the innings. Seifert was out without scoring, while Young made 6. Henry Nicholls, at number three, made 11 and Tom Latham managed only 7. Glenn Phillips, who has been in form, was also dismissed for a duck. Half the side was back in the pavilion within 50 runs, with the Indian bowlers removing five key batters inside that score.
Akib Nabi bowled accurately and took two wickets. Both New Zealand openers were already out when KL Rahul took a fine catch to give Nabi his second wicket. Anshul Kamboj took one wicket.
In the middle, Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner tried to steady the New Zealand innings. Mitchell was out for 55. Santner took two wickets, and Kyle Jamieson was dismissed for 7. The New Zealand batters could not withstand the Indian bowling.
India will look to take a lead in the series with a win today, while New Zealand will be fighting for their first win.
India's playing XI is Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Akib Nabi, Gurnoor Brar and Arshdeep Singh. New Zealand's side is Tim Seifert, Will Young, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner (captain), Nathan Smith, Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy and Blair Tickner.
