The railway underpass that connects Gondia city from the north and south is a very busy route. Repair work on the bridge here began on Thursday, October 22, and will continue for a week. The work affects citizens and motorists who use the route every day.
The office of the Senior Section Engineer (Works) of South East Central Railway (SECR) has issued an official notice. According to it, essential repair and maintenance work is under way on Bridge No. 179A, the underpass, in Gondia.
The letter issued by the railway administration says the bridge on this underpass, which links Yadav Chowk with the Ramnagar-Railtoli side, needed immediate repair. The aim is to ensure the safety of the public and uninterrupted movement in future. To avoid any accident, traffic jam or inconvenience to people during the work, it has been decided to make traffic one-way.
The railway has also written to the Ramnagar police station, the City police station and the traffic police department, asking them to ensure that the one-way traffic arrangement is properly enforced.
The railway administration has also appealed to city residents. They have been asked to use alternative routes as needed during the repair period to avoid trouble, follow traffic rules and the one-way arrangement, and cooperate in getting the work completed on time.
The repair and maintenance work was earlier scheduled to run from October 20 to October 27, 2026. In view of Durga Puja and immersion (the Dussehra festival), it was postponed by two days. The work is now starting from the afternoon of October 22.
