Renault Triber Turbo launched at Rs 7.84 lakh, claims 21 kmpl mileage
Renault has launched a turbo-petrol version of its 7-seater Triber MPV, priced from Rs 7.84 lakh, promising more power and up to 21 kmpl mileage.
When it comes to 7-seater cars in the Indian market, the Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Innova and Kia Carens are usually the first names that come to mind. But their higher prices have left buyers looking for a 7-seater on a smaller budget with limited options. Renault has now launched its popular 7-seater MPV, the Triber, with a new turbo-petrol engine, giving buyers a new choice for strong performance at a lower price.
The new Renault Triber Turbo has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 7.84 lakh, while the top variant is priced at Rs 8.99 lakh. Compared to the regular petrol Triber, buyers will have to pay roughly Rs 94,000 to Rs 1.11 lakh more for the turbo variant. The company had been working on a more powerful version of the Triber for several years; talk of a turbo version began as early as 2019, but the launch was delayed for various reasons. The company has now finally brought this turbo model to the Indian market.
The Triber Turbo gets a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with the code HR10. The same engine is used in the Renault Kiger and Duster 1.0, though the company has made changes to the engine management system in the Triber Turbo. Because of these changes, the Triber Turbo's engine produces 100hp of power and 180Nm of peak torque, and notably, it delivers more torque than the Kiger and Duster 1.0. According to the company's claim, the Triber Turbo can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 10.8 seconds. The car is currently available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, though the company may offer a CVT automatic gearbox option later on. Renault claims the turbo engine can deliver mileage of up to 21 km per litre.
There are no major design changes, and the car looks mostly like the regular Triber, apart from a gloss-black front grille and Renault's new logo, along with LED headlamps and LED DRLs. The front bumper gets a silver surround with a large air dam and fog lamps on both sides. At the rear are clear-lens LED taillamps linked by a gloss-black trim. A TURBO badge on the tailgate marks out this model. In profile, it gets 15-inch dual-tone wheel covers, functional roof rails, and gloss-black door handles and ORVMs.
Inside, there is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features include a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, rear blower control, a cooled centre storage box, automatic headlamps and wipers, a rear washer-wiper, cruise control, and push-button start/stop. With the third-row seats folded, the car offers up to 625 litres of boot space.
On safety, the car gets 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, ABS, EBD, ESP, traction control, hill-start assist and TPMS. To match the turbo engine's higher power, the company has also retuned the ABS, ESC and traction control systems. The Renault Triber had earlier received a 4-star safety rating in a Global NCAP crash test. Its low price, 7-seater capacity, turbo-petrol engine and claimed mileage of up to 21 kmpl have drawn buyer attention to the Triber Turbo. In the Indian market, it can be compared with 7-seater models such as the Maruti Ertiga, Nissan Grand Vitara and Toyota Innova.
