Relative-turned-lover named in nurse's death, accused of threats over intimate photos

The investigation into the death of a 32-year-old woman in the Dhantoli police station area has taken a new turn. Police have registered a case against her relative and alleged lover on charges of rape, criminal intimidation and abetment of suicide, based on a complaint filed by the woman's mother. The accused has been identified as Sachin Dahat (34), a resident of Bhimnagar, Shivajinagar, Amravati.

According to police, the deceased lived in the Dhantoli area and worked as a nurse at a private hospital. In her complaint, the mother stated that Sachin and her daughter had been in a relationship since 2015. The two knew each other through a family connection: Sachin Dahat was the brother-in-law of the deceased's elder sister, and their acquaintance through this relationship later turned into a romantic relationship. The family was aware of the relationship between the two.

It is alleged that Sachin had promised to marry the woman, and it was on this assurance that she entered into a physical relationship with him. The mother has alleged that the accused later backed out of the marriage, after which the woman became mentally distressed.

Later, the deceased's mother approached the police and blamed the accused for her daughter's death. The mother's complaint has recorded several serious allegations, including that he had a physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage, then refused to marry her, and threatened to make intimate photos and videos of her go viral.

After the family's complaint and the allegations that came to light, police widened the scope of the investigation, and the case that began as an accidental death has now turned into a case of abetment of suicide. Based on the allegations, police have registered a case against Sachin Dahat under the relevant sections. Police are now examining the conversations between the accused and the deceased, mobile phones, content on social media and other digital evidence.
