Redevelopment row in Kalyan's Chikanghar splits residents, tension at Khadakpada police station
Residents of a Tycoon group redevelopment project in Kalyan West are divided after a case against the builder, and two groups met at Khadakpada police station.
Differences have surfaced among residents over a redevelopment project being carried out by the Tycoon group in the Chikanghar area of Kalyan West. After a case was registered against the builder, one group of residents has taken an aggressive stand. The other group alleges that politics is being played in the matter.
Buildings are being constructed under redevelopment in the Chikanghar area. However, it is alleged that the tenants concerned have not so far received the rent they expected, nor the homes to be built under the redevelopment. Residents have filed a complaint at Khadakpada police station against builder Shrikant Shitole and four of his associates. Following a complaint by a woman, one group of residents took an aggressive stand.
This group says the builder is only giving assurances, while in reality neither rent nor homes are being provided. Residents are distressed over this and are therefore demanding further legal action. Meanwhile, the second group of residents also reached Khadakpada police station. The two groups came face to face, and tension prevailed there for a while.
Residents of the second group say it is necessary to understand the difficulties the builder faces. Their stand is "We want homes, not politics". They say, "We also want our homes. But there should not be only politics in this matter. Some political people are interfering and playing politics. This is making the redevelopment question more tangled."
This group has also demanded that, whatever the builder's difficulties, they must get their homes, and that the redevelopment issue be resolved without any politics.
Meanwhile, the Congress has also entered the matter. Congress group leader Kanchan Kulkarni also reached Khadakpada police station and demanded action against the builder.
