Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has unveiled the electric version of its luxury SUV, the Range Rover Sport, and has opened bookings. It is the first electric model in the Range Rover Sport line-up, and the company has stressed long range along with strong performance.

The electric SUV has a 118.5kWh battery pack. The company claims the car can deliver a range of up to 609 km on a single charge. It comes with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup.

With the dual-motor setup, the SUV produces 550 HP of power and 850 Nm of torque. The company says this is the highest torque output among Range Rover Sport models. The car can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Torque is delivered quickly in an electric powertrain, so the driving experience is expected to be even stronger.

The Range Rover Sport Electric is built on JLR's 800V Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture. The platform allows fast charging, and the SUV supports 350kW DC fast charging. The company claims the battery takes just 22 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. Ten minutes of charging can add up to 220 km of range.

The company will offer a warranty of 8 years or 1.6 lakh km on the battery pack. Battery warranty will remain an important issue for buyers of premium electric SUVs.

The design retains the identity of the petrol-diesel (ICE) models. The exterior looks largely like the conventional Range Rover Sport, so the SUV keeps its premium, sporty identity despite being electric. The interior, too, is much like that of the ICE model. It has a 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 13.7-inch digital driver display. Both screens will carry menus specific to electric vehicles.

Among the features, the three-spoke steering wheel has touch-sensitive controls. The SUV also gets 4-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, powered seats, heated and ventilated seats, and rear sunblinds.

On the India launch, the SUV is likely to arrive in March next year. Its likely price in India could be around Rs 2.5 crore. The luxury electric SUV is thus preparing to take a place among the expensive, high-performance electric models in the market.
