Ramtek Lok Sabha voter list shows 25,801 duplicate entries, MP Barve seeks correction
Congress MP Shyamkumar Barve asked Nagpur collector Kumar Ashirwad for a thorough review after duplicate voter entries turned up in the draft roll under the SIR-2026 exercise.
The draft voter list printed under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 exercise in Nagpur district shows around 25,801 voters entered twice in the Ramtek Lok Sabha constituency. On Wednesday, the Congress demanded a thorough investigation and transparency into the matter from Nagpur collector Kumar Ashirwad. The party said there are errors in voters' names, many people's photographs have not been updated, and there are inconsistencies in the mapping as well as in the information given in the enumeration forms, or EF.
A Congress delegation led by Ramtek MP Shyamkumar Barve went to the district collector's office and submitted a memorandum to collector Kumar Ashirwad. Several party functionaries were present on the occasion, including Sunil Kedar, city unit president Praful Gudadhe, district president Ashwin Bais, Avantika Lekurwale, Kunda Raut, Prakash Vasu and Yajnavalkya Jichkar.
MP Shyamkumar Barve said the duplicate entries have come to light in 6 assembly constituencies within the Ramtek Lok Sabha seat. Listing the figures, he said duplicate entries were found as follows: Kamthi 11,900, Hingna 7,085, Savner 1,994, Katol 1,780, Ramtek 1,322 and Umred 1,720, adding up to a total of 25,801 entries.
The Congress also raised questions over the mapping and verification process carried out under the SIR. The party asked how the same voter came to be entered in two different places, and said this needs to be investigated thoroughly. According to the Congress, despite voters having provided complete information, the draft list still contains serious errors in names, and several voters have complained that their photographs were not updated even after they submitted new ones.
Seeking correction before the final SIR list is issued, MP Barve's memorandum said the duplicate voter entries should be examined constituency-wise and booth-wise, and that entries mapped to two places should be independently investigated. It also demanded verification of the information given in the enumeration forms against the details in the draft voter list.
The memorandum further said that where the same voter's name has been found in two places, the reason for this should be made clear, a detailed report should be brought out after investigating the errors found, and all necessary corrections should be made before the final list is issued.
