Children at the Zila Parishad school in Rampur, Chimur tehsil, are being forced to study in highly dangerous conditions. The school's walls are cracked, the building has developed cracks, and the classroom floor has come up in many places. The question of the children's safety has become serious, yet no substantial repair of the building has been carried out so far. Parents and villagers are angry.

The school is in Rampur, which falls under the Neri gram panchayat. According to villagers, the condition of the building is worsening by the day. There are cracks in the walls at several places, and the classroom floor is also damaged. As a result, children have to sit in class in this unsafe environment every day.

Villagers say the poor state of the building has been brought to the notice of the gram panchayat and the education department concerned. Applications and requests were submitted from time to time, seeking a new building or immediate repair of the existing one. Despite follow-ups, work has not actually begun, and there is anger in the village.

The issue of repairing the school was also raised in the gram sabha, where an assurance was given that some measures would be taken. But no concrete action followed on the ground. Villagers feel the matter has not moved beyond requests, assurances and follow-ups.

Villagers say this matter concerning children's safety needs to be taken seriously. They want the administration not to act only on paper, but to inspect the site and provide the necessary funds.

Angry parents are asking whether the administration will wake up only after an accident, given how worrying the condition of the building is. They demand an immediate technical inspection of the building in view of the children's safety, and a clear decision on whether it is safe to use.

Parents and villagers have also demanded that the administration inspect the building soon and repair the dangerous portion. If necessary, a proposal for a new building should be prepared, and until then a safe alternative arrangement should be made for the children's studies. They say real steps should be taken instead of pushing paper. Providing children an education in a safe environment is the administration's responsibility, and the people of Rampur are watching to see whether the issue will now be taken seriously.

Ashirwad Sonpimple, block education officer of Panchayat Samiti Chimur, said: "A proposal for write-off has been sent to the district. We have followed up on this with senior officers. Further action will be taken at the senior level."
