Rajura house theft: minor detained, gold jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh recovered
A 14-year-old boy was detained after gold jewellery worth about Rs 1 lakh was stolen from a house in Rajura while the owner was offering namaz.

Police have detained a 14-year-old boy in connection with a house burglary in Rajura. Ilaz Shaikh, a resident of Sasti, had gone to offer namaz when an unidentified thief broke into the house and stole gold jewellery worth about Rs 1 lakh. Rajura police's Crime Detection Team detained the boy within a few hours based on suspicion following a tip-off. During questioning, the boy confessed to the theft, after which police recovered the entire stolen property.
According to police sources, 56-year-old Ilaz Sultan Shaikh is a resident of Sasti. Between around 1 pm and 2 pm on 25 September 2026, he locked his house and went to offer namaz at Rajura's Jama Masjid. Finding the house empty, an unidentified thief entered, opened the door of an iron cupboard kept in the bedroom, and made off with gold jewellery worth about Rs 1 lakh kept in the locker. On returning from namaz, Shaikh grew suspicious on finding the cupboard door open. He immediately called his wife to check the jewellery, and it was found that gold earrings (7 grams), a gold ring (2 grams), another gold ring (3 grams), a gold chain with a '786' locket (5 grams), gold ear studs (2 grams) and a gold nose ring (1.5 grams) were missing from the locker. In all, gold worth about Rs 1 lakh had been stolen. A case was registered at Rajura police station on Shaikh's oral complaint and an investigation began.
Given the seriousness of the case, Inspector Nitin Chincholkar of Rajura police station, along with Assistant Inspector Laxman Lokare and their Crime Detection Team, immediately launched a search operation in the area. During the investigation, based on secret information from a trusted informer, police detained a 14-year-old boy from Sasti on suspicion. The police team gained his confidence and questioned him closely, during which he confessed to the theft. Police recovered the entire stolen property, jewellery worth about Rs 1 lakh, from him.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Chandrapur Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani, Additional Superintendent of Police Ishwar Katkade and Rajura Assistant Superintendent of Police Kumar Sushant. Inspector Nitin Chincholkar's team for the operation included Sub-Inspector Laxman Lokare, Assistant Fauzdar Kishor Tumram, police head constables Vicky Nirvan and Anup Dange, and police personnel Shafiq Shaikh, Milind Jambhule, Ramesh Bassi and Rajeev Dubey.
