A 22-year-old woman was found dead in a room at a lodge in Pune's Hadapsar area on the morning of Thursday, September 24. She had reportedly quarrelled with a young man who had come to the lodge with her, after which he left. Some time later, when it was found that she was still inside the room, the door was opened, and she was found dead.

The deceased woman has been identified as Sakshi Santosh Gaikwad, 22, a resident of Hivare village, Purandar taluka. The man arrested by Hadapsar police in connection with the case has been identified as Vishwas Vamanrao Jagtap (Deshmukh), 23, a resident of Saswad, Purandar taluka. Sakshi and Vishwas knew each other from before. The two had come to a lodge in Hadapsar on Thursday morning.

Preliminary investigation has found that the two quarrelled over some issue around 9:30 am. After the quarrel, Vishwas left the lodge while Sakshi stayed back in the room. When she did not come out for some time, the lodge staff checked the room. On opening it, Sakshi was found dead. On being informed, Hadapsar police reached the spot, carried out a panchnama and sent the body for post-mortem. Around the same time, as soon as Sakshi's family learnt of her death, they rushed to Hadapsar police station.

On a complaint filed by Sakshi's father, police have registered a case against Vishwas Jagtap for abetment of suicide and arrested him. However, what exactly led to the woman's death, and what the quarrel between the two was about, has not yet been established. The case is being investigated by police sub-inspector Ratnadeep Birajdar. Investigators are examining the lodge's CCTV footage, phone calls between the two, and other evidence gathered so far. Police expect that once the investigation is complete, it will become clear what actually happened between the two before the incident and how it is connected to her death.
