Large potholes have formed across the premises of the ST Mahamandal's Chimur bus station, jolting buses and putting passengers at risk, and commuters want the road repaired.

The Chimur bus station of the ST Mahamandal is in very poor condition these days. The Mahamandal promises passengers a safe and comfortable journey, but large potholes have formed all over the station premises. Passengers and ST buses alike are bearing the brunt.

While entering and leaving the station, drivers have to guess where the potholes are as they steer. The potholes jolt the buses hard and have increased the risk of damage to the vehicles. The jolts directly affect the passengers seated inside.

The ride inside the station is especially painful for the elderly, sick patients, schoolchildren and small children. Passengers also face difficulty while boarding and alighting. When rainwater fills the potholes, their depth cannot be made out, which adds to the fear of accidents.

On one hand, the Mahamandal is putting new buses such as Lalpari and Rajmata Jijau into service. On the other, these same new buses have to find a way around the potholes at Chimur bus station. New buses on one side and a dilapidated bus station on the other present a strange contrast.

Given the hardship to passengers and the safety of the buses, there is a demand that the potholes in the bus station premises be filled and the road repaired. Angry passengers are asking whether the administration will wake up only after an accident.

Chimur is an important centre of the tehsil. People from rural areas come to the bus station every day for education, medical treatment, jobs and other work. Despite such crowds of passengers, basic facilities are not being attended to. With announcements being made about new buses and modern travel, passengers are asking when the administration will finally find the time to fill the potholes at the bus station.

Imran Shaikh, in-charge depot manager at Chimur, said a proposal for asphalting the Chimur bus station has been sent to the divisional office. According to him, senior officials have also been informed, and the matter is being followed up for further action.
