Police enforce U-turn system to ease traffic jams at Wadgaon Maval junction
Vadgaon Maval police closed Vishal Lawns Chowk and set up a U-turn system to cut chronic traffic jams on the MIDC highway.
Vishal Lawns Chowk on the MIDC highway in Vadgaon Maval had been seeing heavy traffic jams for several days. To ease the congestion, Police Inspector Shankar Patil of Vadgaon Maval police station adopted a new approach, closing the junction and setting up a U-turn system there. Since the change, traffic at the junction has become more disciplined and the jams have eased, bringing relief to residents.
Vishal Lawns Chowk is a key junction on the MIDC highway, seeing very heavy vehicle movement throughout the day. Traffic coming from different directions often caused congestion, and long queues of vehicles during peak hours made the jams worse. To address this, Vadgaon Maval police changed the traffic arrangement at the junction, closing it and introducing the U-turn system. Vehicles now move through in a set pattern, and people say the congestion at the junction has reduced.
However, despite this measure to ease the jams, haphazard roadside parking on this stretch has not stopped, creating a new problem. Some drivers park their vehicles right on the road, obstructing traffic on the main route. The disorderly parking of large vehicles and four-wheelers in particular forces oncoming traffic to swerve around them, creating a risk of sudden collisions and raising fears of a major accident at the spot.
While people are welcoming the police initiative, they are also demanding strict action against drivers who park haphazardly on the road. Residents have demanded that drivers who park on the roadside or at spots that obstruct traffic be warned first, and if the practice continues, they should be fined.
The U-turn system is proving effective in keeping traffic moving, but curbing haphazard roadside parking is also necessary. People have demanded that police keep regular watch on the spot and take action against vehicles that obstruct traffic. The police move is getting public support, but the possibility of a major accident at the spot cannot be ruled out if the parking problem is not resolved soon.
