Police book BJP taluka chief, 13 others over Ganesh immersion procession clash
Fourteen people booked in Maharashtra's Shirur Anantpal for defying police and blocking a highway during a Ganesh immersion procession
Police have booked 14 people, including the president and vice president of the Shambhu Mahadev Ganesh Mandal, for allegedly confronting police during a Ganesh immersion procession in Digol village, Shirur Anantpal taluka, Maharashtra. The incident took place on the night of September 22 in Digol.
Police allege the accused ignored police instructions and continued playing loud DJ music, deliberately delayed the immersion, scuffled and used obscene abuse against police and home guards, and blocked traffic by staging a road blockade on Latur-Udgir National Highway 63.
According to police, security had been deployed with police and home guards for the Shambhu Mahadev Ganesh Mandal's immersion procession in Digol. Around 10.22 pm, a home guard on duty informed senior police officers that loud DJ music was being played during the procession and the immersion process was being delayed without reason. Probationary Deputy Superintendent of Police and station in-charge Akshay Jadhav then reached the spot with police station staff.
Around 10.35 pm, police told the mandal's office-bearers and those in the procession to switch off the DJ and complete the immersion immediately. However, it is alleged that these instructions were ignored, the DJ was kept running, and there was a confrontation with police. During this, the accused are alleged to have argued with police and home guards, obstructing them in the discharge of their duty.
The 14 people named in the case are Madhav Bhausaheb Biradar, Rameshwar Vinod Digole (president), Mangesh Maroti Dasare (vice president), Sudarshan Dinkar Digol, Govind Madhukar Dasare, Sandeep Maroti Taklagaonve, Kiran Ravindra Biradar, Nawaz Baburao Mujewar, Shubham Nanasaheb Biradar, Sudhakar Shingrupe, Balu Mahadu Londhe, Satish Rajaram Kalme, Sachin Madhav Wadje and Amol Dnyanoba Shelke. All are residents of Digol, Shirur Anantpal taluka.
The accused allegedly scuffled and confronted police and home guards on duty, including police personnel Vinay Ubale, used obscene abuse and shouted slogans, incited the crowd, and continued the procession beyond the stipulated time. The case against the 14 was registered on a complaint filed by police personnel Vinay Ubale. The Shirur Anantpal police are investigating the matter further.
