Nagpur Metro saw heavy crowds on Dhammachakra Pravartan Din and Vijayadashami. More than 1.85 lakh people travelled by metro over the two festivals. It is the third-highest number of passengers in a single day in the history of Nagpur Metro.

Ridership rose 23 per cent compared with last year. The figure shows how heavily people used the metro during the festival days.

Dhammachakra Pravartan Din programmes were held at Deekshabhoomi, and Vijayadashami events were also held in the city. As a result, a large number of devotees and other residents left their homes and movement in the city increased. Mahametro had made special arrangements for passengers' convenience.

The biggest change was in service timings. Seeing the rising number of passengers, Mahametro ran metro trains from 5 am to 12 midnight. The longer hours made it easier for devotees reaching Deekshabhoomi. People travelling to other parts of the city also benefited. With services running late into the night, passengers had one more way of reaching their destinations.

Indora Chowk metro station saw particularly heavy crowds during the festival. Even so, officials and staff posted at the station handled the crowd with alertness, better planning and coordination. Special attention was paid to keeping passenger movement smooth and order maintained in the station premises.

According to Mahametro management, the special services and crowd-management arrangements gave passengers an easy journey during the festival.

The number of passengers in Nagpur goes up during major events such as Dhammachakra Pravartan Din and Vijayadashami. On such occasions, the metro's extended services play an important role in easing the pressure on city travel and giving devotees a convenient journey. The 23 per cent rise recorded this time also reflects the metro's increased use during the festival.
