Nagpur: The Social Service Branch (SSB) of the Crime Branch has arrested a youth from Odisha on charges of trafficking MD (mephedrone) drugs in the Ajni police station area. About 11 g of MD was seized from the accused. Police have registered a case against him under the NDPS Act and begun an investigation.

According to police, the accused has been identified as Abdul Siraj Abdul Gaffar, 38. He is originally from Cuttack in Odisha and was staying in the Kashi Nagar area of Nagpur.

On the night of September 30, the Crime Branch's SSB team received information that the accused was trafficking MD. Acting on the tip-off, police kept watch on the road from Shatabdi Chowk towards Omkarnagar in the Ajni police station area. Siraj, who looked suspicious, was stopped and searched.

During the search, 11 g of MD was recovered from him. Police then took him into custody and began questioning him. Preliminary investigation has indicated that he was involved in MD trafficking in Nagpur.

Police inquiries also found that a case of MD trafficking had been registered against the accused earlier in the Bhawti area of Chandrapur. Police said the questioning has also brought out the role of two people named "Rahul" and "Devil" in the network. Both are being searched for.

Police suspect that the accused and his associates supplied MD in Nagpur and Chandrapur. They are now trying to establish where the accused got the drugs from and who else is part of the network.

A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act and further investigation is under way.
