Next-gen Tata Nexon coming in 2027 on new ATLAS platform
The next-generation Tata Nexon, expected in 2027, is undergoing testing with a new platform, updated design and cabin tech, reports say.
Tata Motors is preparing to strengthen its position in India's compact SUV segment. After the Tata Punch, the company has now begun work on the next generation of its most popular SUV, the Tata Nexon. The new-generation Nexon, expected to arrive in the market in 2027, is currently undergoing testing, during which several important details about the SUV have emerged.
According to reports, the new Nexon could see changes ranging from design to interior and technology. However, despite these updates, a major overhaul of engine options is considered unlikely.
Based on images from testing, the basic SUV look of the new 2027 Nexon is expected to remain similar to the current model. Design elements such as dual-tone alloy wheels, a sloping roof and ORVMs are expected to continue. Still, some changes could be seen in the side profile, such as a sharper A-pillar, redesigned rear doors and an updated spoiler. New LED taillights, a redesigned tailgate and an updated bumper could also give the car a more modern look.
The biggest change in this new-generation Nexon is the new ATLAS (Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle Architecture) platform, which is already being used in the Tata Curvv. This platform is designed to support different body styles, powertrains and upcoming technology, which could give the new Nexon more scope for connected technology and future features.
Major changes are also expected in the cabin. It could get a new touchscreen infotainment system with a new user interface and a modern cabin design. Premium features such as electrically adjustable front seats, ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof could also be offered, suggesting the new Nexon may focus heavily on both technology and comfort.
Despite these design and technology updates, there does not appear to be much scope for major changes to the Nexon's engines. According to reports, the current 1.2 litre turbo petrol and 1.5 litre turbo diesel engine options could continue in the new-generation Nexon, and the existing gearbox options are also expected to continue. Tata Motors may also retain the Nexon's CNG variant, which could use the underbody CNG tank system, with an expected ARAI-certified mileage of around 24 km per kg.
On pricing, the new-generation Nexon could cost more than the current model. According to reports, prices could rise by around Rs 50,000. The Tata Nexon's current ex-showroom price ranges from about Rs 7.40 lakh to Rs 14.40 lakh, so the new model's starting price is estimated to be around Rs 8 lakh. However, the company has not yet announced official pricing.
When it arrives in its new form in 2027, the Tata Nexon will continue to compete in the Indian compact SUV market with models such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Skoda Kylaq and Mahindra XUV 3XO. With the new ATLAS platform, updated design, modern interior and new technology, the Tata Nexon could see significant changes in 2027. However, with engine options expected to remain similar to the current model, attention now turns to the official launch and specifications of the new Nexon.
