Sales and offers are on across online shopping platforms these days, giving buyers a chance to pick up a new smartphone at a low price. Many people have bought new phones with offers and discounts. Many users are left with one question after buying a phone: how long, and up to what percentage, should it be charged the first time?

In the past, people were advised to charge a new smartphone for 8 to 10 hours the first time. That is no longer necessary.

Smartphones have been upgraded over time, and the way they are used and charged has changed too. For this reason, charging a new phone for 8 to 10 hours the first time is no longer required. The latest and advanced smartphones are fitted with lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries, and such phones do not need to be charged for long the first time.

So how long should a new phone be charged the first time? After buying a new phone, you can charge it the normal way. Suppose the phone's battery is at 20 to 30 per cent when bought. After bringing it home, it can be charged with the company's original or certified charger. Once charging reaches 100 per cent, the charger can be removed. Just remember that there is no need to charge the phone for 8, 10 or 12 hours the first time.

If a new phone is already 40 to 60 per cent charged, it is not necessary to take it to 100 per cent immediately. You can use the phone as you need and charge it later.

Many people also advise charging a phone to 100 per cent the first time after buying it. Is that true? It is said that for the battery percentage reading to match the system better, that is, to sync, the phone needs to be charged to nearly 100 per cent from time to time. For this reason, many people charge a new phone to 100 per cent the first time. But this does not mean the phone must be charged to 100 per cent every day.
