New Marathi play 'Shubham Karoti' explores clash of children's dreams and parents' hopes
The play, opening October 1, follows a middle-class Marathi family navigating a son's career choices against his parents' expectations.
Love, expectations, dreams, differences and concern for one another all come together in a home. The balancing act between children's dreams and parents' hopes plays out in many households. A new Marathi play, "Shubham Karoti", brings these everyday family moments to the stage. Carrying the tagline "not a story of one home, but of every home", the play opens on October 1.
Produced by Blue Ramp Entertainment, Nitin Vaidya Productions and Sargam Creations, and presented by Ravetkar, the play is written by Vaibhav Joshi and directed by Bhagyesh Ranade. Shrirang Khaparde, Siddharth Gokhale, Nitin Prakash Vaidya and Rahul Sharad Awasthi are the producers.
"Shubham Karoti" is set around a middle-class Marathi family. It follows the journey of a young man who dreams differently about his life and career, the questions that arise from the way his parents view his choices, and the support he receives from his family in moments of failure. The play touches on themes familiar to today's generation as well as the concerns on parents' minds.
Alongside the story of family relationships, the play also explores how one views failure, understands oneself, and searches for the right path in life. It weaves familiar Marathi verses and ideas from devotional literature into questions of everyday modern life, creating a dialogue between tradition and the current generation.
Director Bhagyesh Ranade said, "'Shubham Karoti' is the story of one home, and at the same time the story of many homes. Today, as families try to reconcile children's dreams with parents' hopes, different questions arise. How we see ourselves and our loved ones in the face of failure is an important part of this play. We have woven the verses and ideas from devotional literature into the story without any sermonising. Our hope is that when audiences watch this play, they feel somewhere in their hearts that it is the story of their own home."
Writer Vaibhav Joshi said, "While writing 'Shubham Karoti', I wanted to show the changing relationships within today's families and the emotions behind those relationships. Children have to build their own lives, while parents worry about their future. The dialogue between these two sides, the situations that arise from it, and finally the attempt to understand each other, is the core of this play. The story also tries to show how the values we grew up with still hold us together even today."
Abhinay Berde, Apoorva Gore, Seema Deshmukh and Hrishikesh Joshi play the lead roles in the play. The story of everyday family life comes to the stage from October 1. "Shubham Karoti", offering a familiar glimpse of family relationships, dreams and expectations, will make audiences laugh, feel emotional, and see their own homes in a new light.
