New Hyundai Tucson unveiled in South Korea with bigger size and 242 hp hybrid
Hyundai has revealed the fifth-generation 2027 Tucson in South Korea with a larger body, new tech and a more powerful hybrid powertrain.
Hyundai has unveiled the 2027 model, the fifth generation, of its popular SUV Tucson in South Korea. The company has made major upgrades this time not just to the look but also to size, powertrain, technology and safety features.
On size, the new Tucson is 60 mm longer and 40 mm wider, while the wheelbase is up by 30 mm. This directly benefits rear passengers, with rear headroom increased by 29 mm. The opening angle of the rear doors has also been increased from 73 degrees to 83 degrees, making it easier to get in and out of the cabin. Changes have also been made to the spoiler, wheel design and active air flaps, improving the car's aerodynamics.
The biggest change inside the cabin is the new Pleos Connect infotainment system, which comes with a choice of 12.9-inch or 17-inch touchscreens. It also features a generative assistant called Gleo AI, which can give the driver information, routes and other features purely through conversation. Various apps can also be downloaded from the Pleos App Market. It also offers a 100W USB port, dual wireless charging and a Bang and Olufsen audio system as options.
On the powertrain, the new Tucson comes with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, producing 190 hp. The hybrid version's power has been increased from the earlier 231 hp to 242 hp. According to Hyundai's estimate, the hybrid model's fuel consumption is 5.7 litres per 100 km. The hybrid also gets E-Traction technology.
The new Tucson also gets a number of safety additions. If the electrical system shuts down after an accident, an emergency power system is provided to open the doors. If the accelerator is pressed by mistake at low speed, the Pedal-Misuse Assist feature helps reduce speed or apply the brakes. Additionally, the Reversing Assistant can control the steering while reversing the SUV by remembering the previous reversing route. The company has not yet made any information public about a plug-in hybrid version.
