The near-fatal attack on Rana Suryavanshi, an industrialist from Baramati taluka, has caused alarm in the area. New details about the investigation are now emerging. The probe initially revolved around the attackers and an alleged contract-killing payment. The talk of some more people being involved has now given it a different turn.
Discussion has begun about the alleged roles of three people from the Bhigwan, Manjari and Pune areas. However, these claims have not yet been officially confirmed.
The attack took place on October 18 near the Pilot dhaba on the Sant Tukaram Maharaj national highway in the Gojubavi area of Baramati taluka. Suryavanshi was shot at and also attacked with a sharp weapon. The incident raised questions about law and order in Baramati.
In the case, police arrested a youth named Parth Avthale along with a minor accused. Police then also detained Suryavanshi's driver, Dnyandev Mahadev Shinde. It is reported that the investigation raised suspicion that Shinde had paid Avthale Rs 2 lakh to carry out the attack. In further action, Swapnil Kamble was arrested. It has also emerged that a case has been registered in the matter against a man named Mahadik.
It is feared that some more people were involved behind the attack. There is talk of the alleged links of three people from Bhigwan, Manjari and Pune, according to reports. But what the role of these people actually is, how they are connected to one another and what the reason for the alleged conspiracy was remain to be clarified. Only an official investigation can establish this.
Police now face several major challenges. They have to trace the full chain of everyone involved in the attack, account for the alleged money transactions and find the real reason for the attack.
Every link in the case is becoming important. The investigation should therefore not be limited to the arrested accused. The role of the alleged mastermind behind the crime and of other possible people also needs to be clarified. For now, the police's official disclosures and the evidence the investigation turns up will matter more than the claims doing the rounds.
