Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, the party's national president, announced the appointments, with Solapur district chief Patil moved to the national role.
The Nationalist Congress Party has made key changes in its organisation. Solapur district president Umesh Patil has been appointed the party's national chief spokesperson. Legislative Council member Zeeshan Siddique has been given charge as Mumbai regional president. The appointments were announced by Sunetra Ajit Pawar, the party's national president and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
The decisions bring change in two places. At the national level, the responsibility for presenting the party's position has changed hands, while in Mumbai the party organisation has passed to new leadership. The party leadership has stressed carrying forward the thoughts, ideals and tradition of public service of the late Ajit Pawar.
Patil had so far been looking after the party organisation in Solapur district. He has now been given the task of presenting the party's stand at the national level. As national chief spokesperson, he will have to put the party's official position before the media and clarify its stand on political developments. The appointment is seen as an attempt to make the NCP's national-level communication more effective.
Siddique is the son of the late leader Baba Siddique. He has now been entrusted with leading the NCP's Mumbai unit. He is a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He contested the 2024 Assembly election from Bandra East but lost. He then reached the Legislative Council in May 2026.
Strengthening the party organisation in a major political centre like Mumbai, improving coordination with workers and taking the party's message to ordinary citizens will be the challenges before him. With elections approaching, the appointment is seen as important for the party's expansion in Mumbai.
The appointment letters mention carrying forward the thoughts, ideals and tradition of public service of the late Ajit Pawar. Sunetra Pawar expressed the hope that both leaders will work with loyalty and dedication to strengthen the party organisation. MP Parth Pawar and other party office-bearers were present when the letters were handed over.
Following the death of Ajit Pawar, the appointments have gained importance in terms of maintaining continuity in the party's leadership and organisation. Political circles will now watch how much strength Umesh Patil and Zeeshan Siddique give the party through their new responsibilities.
