Nashik: Car jumps signal, hits woman biker, driver tries to run down cop
A speeding car jumped a signal in Nashik, hit a woman on a scooter and then tried to run down a traffic constable, before police caught the driver.
An incident at the crowded Dutt Mandir signal area in Nashik city on Monday left onlookers stunned. The accused, 22 year old Vaibhav Dande, was driving a car at high speed and jumped the signal, then tried to run the car over a traffic policeman on duty. Before that, the accused had also hit a woman two wheeler rider hard, according to reports. Police chased and caught the accused along with the car.
The entire incident was recorded on a mobile camera by a person present at the scene, and the video is now going viral on social media.
According to reports, traffic police at Dutt Mandir Chowk were managing the movement of vehicles as usual. During this, the accused Vaibhav Dande drove the car at high speed and jumped the signal. While moving ahead, his car collided with the woman two wheeler rider, hitting her hard. After the collision, the police constable on duty signalled the accused to stop the car, but instead of stopping, the accused increased his speed further.
The accused turned the car directly towards the constable, creating a tense moment there. Seeing the car coming towards him, the constable acted quickly and jumped aside, saving himself. This averted a bigger accident. Despite this, the accused did not stop the car and drove on. A citizen present there recorded the entire incident on his mobile phone, and the video of the attempt to run the car over the policeman is now spreading rapidly on social media.
After giving the constable the slip, the accused tried to flee the spot with the car, but the police team present there immediately began chasing him. Some local residents also helped the police during this. Police eventually caught the accused along with the car and took him to the police station for questioning. Following the incident, questions have also been raised about traffic safety in the Dutt Mandir signal area.
A case has been registered against the accused at Nashik's Uपnagar police station in this matter. Action has been taken under various sections including obstructing government work, violating traffic rules and attempt to murder. Police are investigating the incident in detail, and information is also being gathered about the collision with the woman two wheeler rider.
