Nagpur's vehicle market has picked up pace once again in the festive season. Bookings were very strong during Dussehra, and vehicle sellers are now looking to Diwali sales. The relief on GST and customers' greater readiness to buy a vehicle on an auspicious muhurat are both fuelling the buoyant mood in the market.

Crowds of customers are visible in almost every category, from two-wheelers to four-wheelers. In 2026 so far, 1,46,862 vehicles have been registered in the district. In the whole of last year, 1,71,474 vehicles were sold. Notably, this year's figures do not yet include Diwali sales, so the number is expected to rise further in the coming days. October and November are considered the most important months for buying a vehicle.

Last year, Dussehra and Diwali fell in the same month, so more than 22,500 vehicles were sold in October alone. This time the two festivals fall in different months, so Diwali will bring a separate wave of sales. The response at Dussehra has also raised dealers' expectations.

According to Anuj Pande of the Vidarbha Auto Dealers Association, bookings for Diwali are going on at a large scale. Customer response is satisfactory in both the two-wheeler and four-wheeler segments. Bookings have already been made at many dealerships, and stock of some popular models has begun to run short. Anyone who wants delivery on a Diwali muhurat will therefore have to book in advance.

Figures for the past few years also clearly show a rising trend. MH-49 registers the most vehicles, and the growth at this RTO was 8 per cent in 2023, 12.61 per cent in 2024 and 13 per cent in 2025. For MH-40, growth was recorded at 10.90 per cent, 10.70 per cent and 13.44 per cent respectively.

By 19 October this year, the district's vehicle sales had already surpassed the entire 2023 figure. Vehicle traders are now watching how high total sales climb after Diwali. If the current trend holds, the automobile market is expected to record double-digit growth again this time.

Another feature of this year's market is that companies do not feel the need to offer big discounts or attractive offers. Seeing customer response, companies and dealers have put more emphasis on the strengths of their models and the quality of their products. With demand strong, vehicles of many brands are not getting big discounts as in earlier years.
