Nagpur: Two held for threatening tea seller with knife, demanding Rs 20,000 extortion
Three men allegedly assaulted a tea seller and demanded monthly extortion at knifepoint in Nagpur; two have been arrested.
An extortion case has come to light in the Tahsil police station area of Nagpur. Three young men allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 a month from a man running a tea stall. According to the complaint, the accused first assaulted a bike rider and later went to the tea stall and threatened him by showing a knife.
Sanjay Kharbikar told police in his complaint that he was returning on his bike after visiting the Panchpavaleshwar temple. Near the railway gate before Panchpawali, outside Bhisikar's tea stall, three young men allegedly came in front of his bike.
When Kharbikar asked them to move aside, an argument broke out. The three allegedly abused and assaulted him. According to the complaint, they also damaged his bike with a stone lying on the road.
Kharbikar then went to the tea stall of his friend Chandrashekhar Bhisikar, where the complaint states the same three young men allegedly arrived again after some time and assaulted Kharbikar once more.
When Chandrashekhar and his friends tried to intervene, they too were allegedly threatened.
According to the complaint, the accused showed a knife and demanded Rs 20,000 every month, threatening to kill him if the money was not paid.
Based on the complaint, Tahsil police have registered a case against Soham alias Sonu Nimje, Akshay Dhakate and one other accused. Police have arrested Nimje and Dhakate, while the search for the third accused is ongoing.
Police said Soham Nimje has several previous cases against him, including cases under the NDPS Act and related to illegal weapons. Akshay Dhakate is also accused of involvement in earlier criminal cases.
