Police in the Pachpaoli station area of Nagpur have registered a case after a tax inspector alleged that two men pressured him to reduce a property tax bill, hurled casteist and obscene abuse at him, threatened him and demanded Rs 30,000. Based on the complaint, police have booked the two accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

According to police, the complainant, a 57-year-old officer, has been working as a tax inspector at the office concerned for about two years. The complaint states that one of the accused, a 52-year-old resident of Indora Chowk, would frequently come to the office to get work done for other people and try to pressure officials into doing it.

The complainant said that any officer who resisted him was allegedly harassed through the use of Right to Information applications.

The latest case is said to be linked to an application filed by the accused, Tarvindersingh alias Kuku Marwah, seeking reassessment of the property tax on his house and a correction of the name on the property. According to the complaint, both accused came to the office and began pressuring the tax inspector to lower the tax.

It is alleged that during this the two accused used obscene and casteist abuse and threatened the complainant. The complaint further states that he was also abused and threatened over the phone. The accused allegedly threatened to frame him in a false case and demanded Rs 30,000 in exchange for dropping the matter.

After receiving the complaint, Pachpaoli police registered a case against both accused and have begun an investigation. Police are examining the allegations and gathering other facts and evidence related to the incident.
