Nagpur: A trader has been cheated of Rs 20 lakh in the name of buying grapes and exporting them abroad, police said. A case has been registered in the matter.
The complainant, Rajendra Ade, runs BGP Export Pvt. Company, which exports grain and other products. The accused, Prasanna Deshpande, is from Worli, Mumbai, and works as a broker.
Deshpande met Ade and told him he was associated with an export company. Having won Ade's trust, he allegedly took Rs 23 lakh from him in the name of purchasing grapes, packing and cold storage.
Even after the payment, Deshpande did not supply any grapes to Ade. He said the grapes would be supplied to a company called Maharaja Enterprises and that the money would be paid by that company. He also gave Ade a cheque for Rs 20 lakh, but the cheque bounced.
Distressed, Ade went to Mumbai, where he could not trace Deshpande. He then filed a complaint at Lakadganj police station. Police have registered a case of cheating against Deshpande.
