Nagpur Police have begun preparing security arrangements for the upcoming 70th Dhammachakra Pravartan Din and Navratri festival. A review meeting on the arrangements was held under the chairmanship of Police Commissioner Dr Vishwas Nangare Patil.

Officials of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, the district collector's office, NIT, Mahavitaran and the Food and Drug Administration attended the meeting along with the police department.

As per the schedule, Navratri will begin on October 11. The 70th Dhammachakra Pravartan Din and Vijayadashami will be observed on October 20. A large number of devotees and followers are expected to visit Nagpur during this period, and security and facilities for citizens were discussed in detail at the meeting.

Deekshabhoomi, Bajajnagar, the Dragon Palace in Kamptee and Nagloke in Bhilgaon are the main places where lakhs of followers may gather. The police commissioner therefore directed that adequate police deployment be kept at sensitive and highly sensitive locations, places of worship, procession routes and crowded areas.

Emphasis was also laid on strengthening traffic planning, parking arrangements, CCTV surveillance, drinking water, cleanliness, power supply, medical facilities and the emergency response system. During Navratri, additional security will also be put in place at garba and dandiya venues, goddess immersion processions and public mandals.

Special measures will be taken for the safety of women and children. All departments have also been told to work in coordination. The police have appealed to citizens to celebrate the festivals in an atmosphere of peace and brotherhood and not to believe rumours.
